iPhone 5 Release – Apple Sells Out of the iPhone 4S
Posted on 2011-10-10
Within 24 hours of opening pre-orders for the new iPhone 4S, Apple has pushed back the expected shipping times for the deliver of the iPhones an estimated one or two weeks. Apple began to take pre-orders online through the Apple website at approximately 12:01AM PST on Friday.
Some users did have trouble ordering though. Verizon and Sprint customers were able to preorder on time but many AT&T customers found that they were unable to purchase an iPhone 4S for a few hours. Apple has announced that there have been already over 200,000 pre-orders for the new iPhone, which is a record for Apple.
The iPhone 4S as unveiled on Tuesday with the same design as the iPhone 4. It does however have an upgraded camera, faster processing speed, and Siri voice control. Analysts do expect the iPhone 4S to quickly become the top selling iPhone Apple has ever sold.
Currently, Verizon is sold out of its initial batch of 16GB models. The estimated delivery date of the 16GB model is also now October 21st. Sprint is in the same situation and both will have iPhones available in stores on October 14th.
This has been a very different launch for Apple because this is the first iPhone that can be used with multiple carriers. Even worse, this is a global iPhone, in that it can operate on CDMA and GSM networks. Apple has always had problems with iPhone launches and this launch is already extremely messy.

the AT&T iPhone already has 4G services. It’s not as fast as the LTE verizon offers but it also doesn’t suck the batter down as much… I’m completely fine with that.

No he is actually smart this phone sucks compared to others on the market or will be on the market. Who cares about an 8MP camera. MP’s dont make the camera. Why have a dual-core phone when you wont use that kind of processing speed specially with out 4g. Voice control always sucks no matter who develops it. All in all the only legit upgrade is 64GB of storage and iOS5 are the only legit upgrades. Neither are worth a $400 plus tax price tag with the rest of the technology in the phone. Just get an Iphone 4 and put iOS5 on it and there you go an Iphone 4s – 32GB.

They didn’t just add more megapixels to the camera, they added one more lens and upgraded the sensor. The iPhone 4S also has HSPA+, which is the only 4g readily available right now until LTE becomes widespread. Go look at the Benchmark scores of the iPhone 4S if you still believe its no better than the iPhone 4.

You obviously have no idea about the vision impaired amongst others with disabilities who can hold done decent jobs and make great use of voice control. You are an ignorant person and your ravings should be dismissed as irrelevant! Idiot!

apple has been known to do this. This is what they did with the iPhone 3g. Once they got the bugs fixed with the 3g & had that model perfectly honed down & stable they rolled out the 3gs that was faster and better in every way. the very same 3gs which I’ve had for 2 & half years & is still working great with the most up to date ios update (same currently updated ios as is being run by the iPhone 4. I will get the 4s because I love the ios and this is the fastest and best item to run it on! If you have the iPhone 4 or some other model of phone released in the past year then I totally understand not wanting to upgrade because you are probably still in one of the standard 2year phone plans & are not even available for an upgrade. But I have the 3gs & considering I would gladly upgrade to the 4 if that was my only option but the 4s is going to be the new gold standard for the next year & a great runner up in a year when the 5 rolls out.
when you get a 2 year plan you have to accept that in a year there will be a new phone that that is a few notches better than the last & you will have to wait a year to upgrade.
I promise this line of reasoning makes sense! feel free to wait a year for the 5, it won’t make a difference to those that would like the best phone running the ios-5 now.
Also, I hope apple doesn’t change that much about the body of the phone for the 5 because the flat sides make it easy for you to do tabletop facetime video and photos handsfree!

I’m speaking from beyond the grave don’t by the iPhone 4s wait until the redesigned iPhone 5 comes out. iPhone 4s is just a hype to help all the debt apple is in and help pay medical expenses after the passing of Steve jobs If u already have a iPhone 4 don’t waste ur time with 4s.

As the wealthiest company in the world I doubt Apple has to worry about going into debt because of paying for the medical expenses of one person, especially because that person happens to be worth around $12 billion.

From what I learned from AT&T, when I was pre-ordering the iPhone 4s for my wife & myself, pre-orders are going to be as much as 2-3 weeks out from the 14th of October.
Luckily for my wife & I we have working 3gs phones currently so it won’t be a big deal to wait for the 4s to arrive.

Matty and Miami you two are oblivious fucktards verizon is backed up till the 21st on pre orders of of the 16 gb. I was wondering about how many would be available in stores because if you “obviously read the article”shithead it says both sprint and verizon will have them in stock. Enjoy waiting for the mail and getting it a day late!

I went into AT&T and they said they will have a ton of extras that will go very quickly, though. They’ll have the amount for the pre-orders, plus some. Just camp outside and you’ll hopefully get one. So to everyone who is being a dickhead, this is straight from an AT&T employee. I’d call the individual store first though.

I talked with an Apple rep today and said that the pre-orders are being shipped and the Apple Stores will have the iPhone 4s for sale on Oct. 14th on a first come first serve basis. Good luck!

For once we were well served in the UK. I pre-ordered through Vodafone UK on the 7th and got delivery on the 14th (at 10am!)
It is a good phone – certainly a worthwhile upgrade over the 3-GS.
Yes, Apple may have missed a trick not calling it the iPhone and changing the form factor or increasing the screen size but I think the main complaints are about the desire for a differentiated porduct rather than an evolution. The thing that is still missing is support for Flash (but we all know why that is!)
My wife has a Galaxy S – and the integration with the PC is horrible compared with the iTunes integration. The Galaxy’s 4″ AMOLED screen is really good, but without reducing the brightness and having a battery optimiser app, the battery life is absolutely hopeless.
I’ll keep the for the term of its 2 year contract (backed with an Applecare extended warranty!) and when that expires go for the latest model. On principal I will never turn in mid contract for an upgrade becuase the turnround in marketing technology is just too fast.
