People are going a bit overboard here, weren’t you expecting this, since it has happened before with the 3GS, so technically it is only 3 months late.
Things about speed etc are a defining factor, look at a hyper car, great 0-60mph but go try take it shopping or the small streets of the UK. Its the complete package you have to consider, some wont like this upgrade because it isn’t a big enough jump from what they have, others will because they may have a Nokia 1100.

Try going into the store when you upgrade. A friend of mine did when he got a new phone and his plan stayed the same. I read on a Droid forum someone trying to upgrade on the internet and they were trying to make him get a different plan.

Apple didn’t jump from the iPhone 3 to the iPhone 4. There was that little phone in between that people seem to forget about. It was called the “iPhone 3GS”. It had over double the hardware specs of the 3G, the display was upgraded, the camera, ect… The iPhone 4S has SEVEN TIMES the processing power of the iPhone 4, and is available pretty much on your network of choice. 1080P video camera is pretty amazing in it self for a phone… all that being said, I can’t see the Iphone 5 release being any farther off in the future than two or maybe 3 quarters away. Thus, I’ll stick with my iPhone 4 till the 5 makes it’s appearance… A four inch screen does sound pretty nice with with retina display…

Plenty new with this phone. Though screen size and resolution is the same, 4s has dual core and 7x faster graphics. This will allow developers to build better games. Faster downloads, better camera, better video. I can see waiting for the next one, but dont say this is a worthless upgrade.

What did everyone expect? Can you think of a feature that the phone doesn’t already do well? Until they have pico-projectors built in and a USB port for file transfers, there’s not much more that you could ask of a smart phone.

Yes there is processor speed, but if you design a superior OS, it is not necessary anyway. Apple has a very solid track record of doing things right, and their competition wants to be them. I fully agree with the guy who mentioned that this is an iPhone5 just without a case mod. That means we’re not paying for the tooling and design for a new one anyway, higher value.

I have been waiting, my upgrade has been valuable since before June and my 3GS is almost completely dead. I will definately be getting the new 4S, despite the small disappointment that the lack of cosmetic change caused.

Actually, I’m not getting the 4s.I have a 3gs right now and was looking forward to 5. I kept saying that I would wait to upgrade until then. Now that there’s no huge difference in 4 and 4s. Apples stocks have taken hit after every announcement. 4s look awesome to me. Finally a good camera always in pocket without having to buy Nokia. Excellent specs, that unlike competitors are going to be used as there was already pretty impressive Unreal 3 game demoed in announcement, which you cannot see in Android ecosystem even this long after launch. iPhone 4s even has separate image signal processor besides general processor and gpu. It has revamped Os, free cloud and pretty smart voice assistant(not only old fashioned voice commands for lauching apps which is so 90′s). Good battery life.

Overall, far more impressive stuff, than what Samsung can offer. +where are all the music making software for Android!?! I found a couple of simple synths, that were unplaybly laggy! They are the main reason for me to sell my Android phone and go back to iOS. It just works. Less talking about the specs and more functionality.

What do you guys really expect from a company that consistently lies about their battery life? Any iPhone owners here that can use WiFi for 10 hours or anywhere close to that? I am not sure what the benchmark they are using to measure this, but I get like 1 to 2 hours using Wifi. If they can BS about this, and we as consumers eat it like the dumbasses we are, then why can’t they roll out 4S and fck all of the stockholders in the ass?

well, I guess than the problem is your method of using your iphone. I got an iphone 4, and in average, I ussualy use wifi for about 6 hours and it still got another 40% approximately of remaining battery life.

Come on fellas, the Iphone 4s is what we should have been expecting. When the Iphone 3GS came out, it had exactly the same body as the 3, just with a quicker operating system, a better camera and a couple of other small changes. Same as the Iphone 4s. Same body as the 4, but with a better camera, better operating system, etc. Apple never said a thing about an Iphone 5. A lot of us have been had with all the rumors and so-called iphone 5 cases being leaked. Enjoy the new phone!

I don’t like this. I wanted iPhone 5. I passed up the iPhone 4 for hopes of a new iPhone because I felt the 4 was not that much of an upgrade. There, I said it. My 3G S is getting old…

And Mr. Jobs is hardly Apple anymore, so that’s become irrelevant. Well, is $399 expensive for s smartphone these days? Not really, but for these features? I have to think twice. Apple is not about doing everything first, they’re about doing everything BETTER. Voice recognition on android sucks horribly, the user interface is a mess, what should be one of the best apps on android (google search) freezes every time I try to search ANYTHING even with the Gingerbread update. These are just a couple of examples. I don’t have all day to go over the rest.

I think the siri virtual assistant feature will be very useful feature. I don’t care how fast your fingers are if it can keep up with speech that quicker. Voice activated commands is the way of the future. I have never liked sms except for the shortest of messages. It seemed so inefficient when you can just make the call.

I was waiting for the iPhone 5, but I am glad I didn’t. I was willing to try an iPhone because I enjoy my iPad, but if the phone does not have 4G, it is an antique. 4GLTE on my bionic rivals my cable modem if it doesn’t actually beat it. Buy a phone for it’s features and not because you have a hard-on for a brand. I am going to dub this the Zack Morris phone.

While it is true that Apple behaved in similar fashion with the 3GS, the competitive climate looked a lot different at the time. I would think Apple would buck that model in favor of maintaining an edge. I don’t think people are complaining that it’s a bad phone, I think people are appalled over the fact that the features that Apple decided to upgrade have already been covered by Droid… someone’s already been on that moon and stuck their flag in it. So in the spirit of competitiveness… and having the the next best thing on your hip, people were holding out for Apple’s grand middle finger to all of the competition. Time has changed. Apple is loosing it’s ground on the mobile market, and today’s presentation is proof to that. Aldough the new iPhone has good features, it is way outdated in comparison to it’s competitors. Physical upgrades are far more important for some than internal. I have a Samsung GS2. The phone works so fine. I use the texting, i use the camera – There was no reason to update – i don’t need a bunch of apps to make me feel occupied while I should be socializing with whom I am surrounded by. To me it does not make them look socially important. Yes i do have apps, all of them free, but apps on this phone really do not do anything to improve the quality of life for any one .

I’m going to buy it because I can afford it… and when the 5 ever does come out… I can afford that, too… so wagh!!!!!!!!! People… the 4S IS the 5. A rose by any other name….

I upgraded from a 3G to a 4 in June cos I just didn’t want to wait, and I have to say I’m still impressed with it, I think it’s brilliant and don’t get this obsession with speed or the need for it to look different.
My 4 is WAY faster than the 3G was simply due to the fact the hardware of the 3G couldn’t handle the iOS any more – The 4 is sooo fast in comparison, how much faster can it get ? are you really gonna notice ?
So the 4S is gonna look just like the 4 ?, Not a problem, I happen to think the 4 is the best looking phone out there in my humble opinion , course, you’re welcome to yours….
Don’t get why people are so upset – Did they not upgrade the processor ?, the camera ?, the operating system ?, they already HAVE the best display out there in the Retina display – Bigger is not always better, in fact it will just display all those flaws in the inferior quality screens !, Personally i don’t want something the size of a paperback in my pocket, Want BIG ? get an iPad !

The iPhone 4S is a logical step forward. It now has the technology that the iPhone 5 will have and is an absolutely fantastic phone to boot. The only mistake Apple made here was believing that the general public aren’t a bunch of total idiots (like a lot of the people who commented on this story) and that they would understand the improvements of this device. Android phones can put stats on paper all they want, but paper will NEVER translate to actual REAL WORLD use. I am an android user (Droid X) and my wife has iPhone 4. I’ve done numerous side by side speed tests with different apps and web pages and the results are the same every time, iPhone hands down. Supposedly my Droid X has “faster” processor and “more” RAM but somehow it ALWAYS falls short of the iPhone 4 because Apple’s iOS user interface just works how it supposed to and when its supposed to. Apple has introduced a phone that in REAL WORLD use is better than anything android could ever have, yet people complain because it doesn’t look different. Does the phrase “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” ring a bell here? The design of iPhone is as close to perfect as it can get, not just in my opinion, but millions of others also. To say there’s nothing different could possibly be the most retarded thing anyone could say about this device. Did you even read the articles and see the comparisons? Just because it doesn’t have 5 in the name doesn’t mean its not different! And I am baffled at why android fanboys look at this website just to bash Apple. I pre-ordered the 4s on Friday. This is my first iPhone. I love the iPhone operating system and it is the only touch screen that I don’t find it to be a pain to text on.

Those of you complaining about this not being the 5, why? Just why? It’s two best new features is the processing speed that is 7x as fast as their previously best phone, and better camera. For you people tripping out this IS the iPhone 5 but without a new design(pointless addition that shouldn’t matter as it adds no functionality to the phone)and a screen that is no bigger that the 4 but still only slightly smaller than what the 5 is supposed to have.

There are 3 main new features with this device. Better camera-The iPhone 4 already has a great camera compared to other phones and some people use the camera a fraction of the time. The A5 chip is cool but some people don’t need that much power. And finally the voice thing ‘Siri’ if you were to pull this out at a party or school you would just get laughed at its more like a gimmick. Whoever needs an assistant should just become more smarter and research it themselves. This way by ignoring these new features you can buy the same phone but for cheaper.

The iPhone 5 release date is delayed to sometime in 2012, most likely the summer but it’s anyone’s guess and Apple itself may not yet be sure.

My contract whit at&t it’s over last month and I thing I will take an other company whit diferent smart phone because I stiil wating for the iphone 5 and never see new news about iphone 5 thank you.

Get a life people. The technology offered in this phone is far greater than what any of you probably could have dreamed of 5 years ago. If you don’t like it, go with the competition, but I certainly think that the amount of power packed into this palm sized package is astounding, and pretty damn fun to use.

I don’t think this is disappointing at all, changing your iPhone every year only shows your desire of being “in”, but honestly I think having your iPhone for 2 years is good and specially when for those attached to carrier’s contracts. On the other hand, iOS 5 is really the most important new feature, as a dev I’ve been using it for a while and it’s awesome. And let’s be honest new carriers (Verizon and Sprint) won’t agree to have iPhone 4 for less than a year, business-wise it’s absurd to think iPhone 5 was in less-than-a-year span for Verizon.

Here we go everyone exactly what i have been trying to say to u all. here is the exact quotes from one of apples sites, Apple never said there would be an iPhone 5 in 2011, and even our use of the word “delay” here is subjective relative to when Apple most likely thought it was going to launch the iPhone 5. To everyone that thought there was going to be an iphone 5….I REST MY CASE!!!!

I really don’t mean to be a jerk, but those of you who are “disappointed” by this news just weren’t paying very much attention to Apple the last few years. Sure, they skewed they’re typical release schedule a bit this last time, but I knew all along there would not be a completely redesigned “iPhone 5″. I knew it would be a modified iPhone 4. And I didn’t know this because I’m some super-genius or can see the future, I just looked at Apple’s history.

The disappointed people can only blame themselves as they apparently can’t be bothered to pay attention. Not Apple’s fault if you pumped yourself up for something that was clearly not going to happen the way you personally envisioned.

Again, sorry to be a dick about it, but I’m so sick of this Me-me-me Everything Must Be How I Want It Entitlement mentality.

Iphone 5… Just name! The only things wrong with number 4 has been fixed with this new version. Iphone 3′s designe was outdated, while this is one sharp and clean. We get a new CPY, more MP for the camera, and the antenna is fixed. All the other things people want are just specs to satisfy geeks!

Forget upgrading to a “S” model. I regret not waiting for the iPhone4, which made a huge leap in wow factor in comparison. I’m a diehard Apple fan, but I urge everyone to boycott this 4S phone so that iPhone5 will come to market sooner.

I actually can not wait for the Iphone 4s! Had my 3gs for 2 years and can not wait to upgrade. Makes me laugh that everyone goes on about Android being better etc, because when you think about it, if it wasnt for Iphone, half the stuff Android and that do wouldnt exsist becuase Apple was doing it first. Another thing is an Iphone 5 was never confirmed, that was just rumors, so I am not disapointed, at all. RIP Steve Jobs.
